The WWOA Foundation Board has received an excellent bid of $21,600 to replace the barn roof. This is a very good price by a contractor whose quality work is known at Seno. This bid includes taking off the old roof, installing plywood underlayment and a new metal roof.

Please donate what ever you can to make the new roof a reality. Your donation will complete the restoration of the upper barn and make it useable for school and adult groups.

A Short History of the Barn Renovation
Over the years the transformation of the Seno barn into the Education Center has taken the work of countless hours by many volunteers with a substantial amount of money. We have completely renovated the lower level into a meeting room, kitchen and bathroom. And upstairs the volunteers built bathrooms and a conference room in the space occupied by the old grain storage areas. Pine flooring was installed in the large upstairs room known as the Seybold Room along with lighting and wainscoting on the walls. But we have not been able to rid this room of the large bat colony. Their droppings make the space difficult to keep clean and cause a health hazard.

When the soffit and rain gutters were replaced this summer it was discovered that the bats are coming out between the asphalt shingles and the old wood shake shingles below. A research study by a class from Carthage College found that there is a nursery colony of over 200 bats in our barn. The bats create unhealthy conditions for full use as a learning space for classes and a planned nature museum. Until we solve the bat problem this is only a dream.

The new roof is the final phase of the renovation. It will completely seal the barn from rain AND bats. It is planned to encourage the bats to move into another building
